WordNet translator : first steps in automatic translation of an English semantic database into Polish

This paper describes a program that facilitates the comparison of the lexical systems of Polish and English through substitution of the synsets in the nominal part of WordNet by Polish translation equivalents. The program does the matching on-the-fly, using two bilingual resources available in machine-readable format. The focus is on automatic data extraction (including some problems encountered) and the user interface with a translation module. Some tests used to select the fittest among the available Polish senses are described. The choice and quality of the resources used are among the issues addressed
